GREEN TWP. -- A Marshallville man died Friday when his motorcycle crashed into the side of a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of state Route 57 and Fulton Road at 8 p.m.
Kenneth C. Shanklin, 61, West Market Street, was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Dr. Amy Jolliff.
According to the Wooster Post of the State Highway Patrol, Shanklin was southbound on state Route 57 following another southbound motorcyclist, who was slowing to turn left onto Fulton Road.
Shanklin passed the other motorcycle on the right and almost immediately crashed into the passenger side of an SUV, driven by Brian F. Kellogg, 39, Fulton Road, Marshallville, which was northbound on state Route 57, attempting a left turn onto Fulton Road, said Post commander Lt. Chad Enderby.
The collision caused Shanklin, who was not wearing a helmet, to be ejected from his motorcycle, said Enderby.
Kellogg, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. The other motorcyclist, Jeffrey B. Peters, 28, of Marshallville, who was not traveling with Shanklin, was not involved in the crash, said Enderby.
The crash remains under investigation, Enderby said Friday night.
